All systems are go! We are on the runway and all set to fly into adventures as our new school year begins!
I am Mrs. Diane Gomes, the head flight instructor! I am looking forward to teaching your children this year, as we move forward into new learning and build on the skills we have brought with us.
What an exciting job I have! I have enjoyed teaching for 33 years now, most of those in the Norwalk–La Mirada district. I have been at La Pluma for 20 of those years. We live here in La Mirada, where my husband Alan teaches at Biola University. Our sons have attended Biola, and my younger son will graduate this year! He will head off for graduate school after that, but, my nest will not be empty! I have many little eaglets to teach right here at La Pluma! (And two little parakeets at home!)
This year, our classroom will be known as the “Soaring Eagles Flight Academy”. It’s a fun way to encourage the children to reach new heights in learning, as we explore our grade-level topics and skills. You will notice the themes of “flight” and “eagles” woven into many learning activities and used to inspire interest.
As we get under way this year, I hope you will feel free to stop in after school to introduce yourselves to me. If you ever have questions or concerns, be sure to write me a note or leave a phone message with the office staff, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
